Stress Free Holiday Eating

Why do we spend so much time and energy stressing over eating foods we enjoy? Especially during the holidays.

We put so much pressure on ourselves, usually because of fear of gaining weight. But I believe we should stop putting so much pressure on ourselves.

There are many ways we can both enjoy the foods we love, and have self control. If you are the baker, this can be a bit harder but it's not impossible.

My number one tip is, plan ahead. Look at your week ahead and figure out when your holiday events are. Those are the days you let loose and just enjoy yourself. The days prior and after is when you have self control. Planning is a must at this time of year. IF YOU FEEL STRESSED.

I personally don't worry about it at this time of year. Pretty much the entire month of December I allow myself total grace when it comes to eating. Let me be clear, when I say I don't worry, its not to say I don't get at all stressed. I do have self criticism. But I also remind myself I would rather enjoy life than worry about every piece of food I eat.

Another tip, that also goes along with planning, is make sure you have healthy foods on hand. It's easier to eat healthy the days before and after parties if you already have healthy options. You can make a huge bowl of salad that will stay fresh for days. Just don't put dressing on it until you eat it. Have meats and veggies ready, or whatever your favorite healthy foods are.

When you eat foods that stress you out, do your best to not beat yourself up for it. When I find myself having negative thoughts about myself, I stop and say, "it's ok". That's it. That's all you have to do. You don't have to go on and on. The less we beat ourselves up the less negative effect the foods will have on our bodies.
