What is Leucidal SF Max?

Leucidal® SF Max is a natural, probiotic-based antimicrobial ingredient (preservative alternative) derived from the fermentation of Lactobacillus. It is designed for use in cosmetic and personal care products as a consumer-friendly alternative to synthetic preservatives like parabens or formaldehyde donors. Its INCI name is Lactobacillus Ferment.

Leucidal SF Max is derived from radish root fermentation using beneficial bacteria, specifically Lactobacillus or Leuconostoc strains, creating antimicrobial peptides that act as natural preservatives in skincare. Radish roots are fermented with lactic acid bacteria (like Leuconostoc kimchii or Lactobacillus). The bacteria produce antimicrobial peptides, which are released from the radish root during the process. The resulting liquid, known as Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, is the active ingredient. 

It provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial protection against bacteria and fungi by acidifying the environment and producing novel antimicrobial peptides called bacteriocins. It is naturally derived and free from undesirable synthetic chemicals such as parabens, formaldehyde donors, phenoxyethanol, and salicylic acid, it's ECOCERT approved for organic formulations making it ideal for "clean beauty" products.

The ingredient itself has high moisturizing capabilities, leaving the skin feeling soft and conditioned, which is an added benefit beyond preservation.
