Vegan Alternative To Beeswax

In the world of personal care, achieving the perfect balm—one that is both deeply moisturizing and maintains its shape in a warm pocket or purse—is a delicate art. The secret weapon for many modern, clean beauty brands is Candelilla wax (Euphorbia cerifera), a phenomenal, plant-based wax from the leaves of a desert shrub.

It's more than just a vegan substitute for beeswax; it brings unique, high-performance benefits to both lip and body balms.

It's harder than beeswax and has a higher melting point (around 68–73°C), which is crucial for creating balms that won't melt easily, even in warmer temperatures. Despite its firmness, it provides a smooth, non-sticky "slip" or glide during application. This ensures your lip balm or lotion bar spreads effortlessly without feeling draggy or waxy on the skin.

Unlike petroleum-based waxes that can feel heavy, Candelilla wax creates a thin, breathable barrier on the skin's surface. This layer acts like a second skin, locking in hydration and repelling environmental stressors—such as pollution and harsh weather—without the greasy "suffocating" feel.

For those following a 100% plant-based lifestyle, Candelilla is the gold standard. It's also hypoallergenic, making it the perfect alternative for anyone sensitive to bee products or pollen—allergies that can sometimes make traditional beeswax products irritating.

As of right now we use Candelilla wax in our LIP BALMS, COLD SORE BALM, SLEEP WELL FOOT CREAM AND PAIN RELIEF BALM.
