Arnica-infused oil is a natural topical product made by steeping the flowers of the Arnica montana plant in a carrier oil (we use grapeseed oil) over a period of several weeks, allowing the plant's therapeutic compounds to infuse into the base oil. The resulting golden-hued oil is a popular herbal remedy for external use. It's a staple in pain balms due to its potent anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties, which help to reduce swelling, ease muscle soreness, and accelerate the healing of bruises.
Arnica contains a compound called helenalin, a potent anti-inflammatory agent that helps manage acute and chronic pain by regulating the body's inflammatory response. It is considered to work as effectively as some over-the-counter anti-inflammatory gels (like ibuprofen) for conditions such as hand osteoarthritis.
When applied topically, arnica can help minimize the severity and duration of bruising. It works by acting as a vasodilator and stimulating the flow of white blood cells, which helps the body reabsorb trapped blood and fluid from damaged tissue more quickly.
Arnica is widely used by athletes and active individuals to relieve post-workout muscle soreness, stiffness, and tension. Applying it after strenuous activity can support faster recovery and improve flexibility.
It's a valuable component of a recovery routine for minor injuries, sprains, and strains, helping to manage swelling and discomfort alongside basic first-aid measures like rest, ice, and elevation.
The ingredient thymol in arnica acts as a vasodilator, which increases blood flow to the affected area, promoting a faster healing process.
Regular, gentle massage of an arnica-infused balm into stiff or aching joints can provide a warming, soothing sensation and make daily movement more manageable for people with arthritis.
Our Cool & Calm Pain Relief Balm is our first product with arnica in it. I will be making other products geared toward pain relief that will include this powerful herb. Stay tuned!
* Do not use this Pain Balm if you are allergic to aspirin or on blood thinners (due to wintergreen)
