The Truth About Lotion: Not All Formulas Are the Same

Grab your favorite lotion and compare!

Many lotions available today contain toxic ingredients. The FDA approves these substances, claiming they are safe in small amounts. However, when used in multiple daily products, they can accumulate in the body and lead to health problems. There are several ingredients I recommend avoiding entirely, especially since there are numerous toxins we cannot escape.

MY TOP RECOMMENDATIONS TO AVOID

Synthetic fragrance (and perfume): may include a combination of thousands of chemical ingredients protected by US regulations. Harmful chemicals can be concealed under this single label.

Phthalates (DBP, DEHP, and DEP): are endocrine-disrupting chemicals associated with hormonal issues, including infertility.

Phenoxyethanol: has been linked to reactions ranging from eczema to severe, life-threatening allergic responses.

Parabens: look for butylparaben, isobutylparaben, methylparaben, propylparaben, or ethylparaben on labels. These are known endocrine disruptors.

There are so many that I can't list them all. Many are even found in natural lotions! There are numerous loopholes in the labeling of cosmetics and skincare products. If you're unsure about an ingredient, take the time to research it. You might be surprised at what's in your body care products. It's crucial to be aware of what you apply to your skin, as everything absorbed through the skin enters your bloodstream.

Lotion should primarily serve to moisturize. Many lotions contain ingredients that actually dry out your skin, such as alcohol. Most of these ingredients are included to extend shelf life. By avoiding them, our lotions have a shorter shelf life, which is why I produce them in small batches to ensure freshness. Since I don't include harsh chemicals, you'll use about half the amount compared to most lotions. I recommend starting with a half pump to determine how much you need!
